NEW YEAR’S EVE TIME CAPSULE ACTIVITY
New Year’s Eve is a special time to reflect upon the past year and to celebrate all of the amazing goals and dreams that you have for the upcoming year. For us, New Year’s Eve is always family time, filled with champagne, party poppers and LOTS of fun crafts and activities to keep us busy all night long! Follow the step by step and have fun making your 2020 time capsules!
A time capsule is a great way to remember all you have done and achieved this year. Every time we make one of these I get excited about my kids opening them in the future when they are older! I think these are such great gifts for your child to get to dig this capsule up in their future. Through because we move so much we have saved ours in large jam jars and memory boxes for now!
We have created a New Year’s Eve themed activity pack for this year. We know that a lot of families may have done a COVID capsule this year but this one is geared up to the whole of the year and as something light-hearted to keep the troops entertained for a while!
If you have never created a time capsule before it’s simply a collection of items that paint a picture of what things looked like in the past. It’s meant as a form of communication with the future and whoever digs up the capsule. For us, we intend to but we may start leaving them behind in our Military Quater gardens as a record of what life was like for forces families as a record for future generations! But that’s a whole other idea!
2020 has been such a strange year, full of mixed emotions but life isn’t perfect and we only get so many New Year’s Eves with our children before they do their own thing, so for us we want to make them count while we can!
We are excited to see what you all get up to so make sure you tag us with the hashtag #MHMLNewYears

how to make your time capsule
A time capsule is a container that holds present-day items, such as photos, newspaper clippings, letters and keepsakes. It’s typically hidden away for your future self or someone of your choosing to open and whether you choose to bury it in the garden or safely away in a cupboard. This is perfect as a gift to yourself or a gift for your child for future years. There’s no limit to how long you wait until you open, that is up to you! Shoeboxes or large jars are great for indoor safekeeping, while weather-resistant boxes are best for the outdoors. We have some easy steps to follow below.
